Bounce Rate

"Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page"

This may not be a proper metric. What if the landing page has only external links? The page may be exactly what the user is looking for.

"Use this metric to measure visit quality - a high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren't relevant to your visitors"

Google looks down upon this. For example, a page may have a listing of popular DVDs with external links. The user may be looking for a DVD, find it, and click on the external link. This hurts the rankings. I may make a "learn more..." link that goes to a page all about that item and then the user can purchase it. This would be two page views and it would not constitute as a "bounce".

Manic Depression Website

This website crawls the web, taking content from sites, referencing the original site, and allowing Google to crawl it:

Manic Depression Guide

Great way to get traffic!

That is a good idea. I have wanted to build a bot for some time now. I may do something like that to get traffic to my site.

Importing Google Maps to Blogger

Google Maps are amazing and it is so easy to integrate maps into websites or blogs. It can be done just by going to the Google Maps and finding the location you want exported. Click the "Link Here" box and the code to link to that map and the code to integrate the map into a web page pops up in a box. There is a Google Maps API for developers that allows for much more complex integration into external websites.

Here is a simpler version of exporting a map. This is Boston, MA on the satellite view:

Software Design - Google Pages

Software Design is a website that I created with the Google's Page Creator tool. This tool is fairly simple to use, but I did not like the fact that I could not find a way to make a common header/footer to show across all pages that I create. It is a fairly simple web page creator, but it works for simple posts. I am assuming that in the future, Google will enhance the Page Creator tool.
